October 15, 2017 Denver, Colorado
Boxelder Consulting, a Denver based tax resolution and accounting firm, sponsored five runners in the Denver Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon on Sunday, October 15th. A unique aspect of this sponsorship is that this event brought three former Flint, Michigan, the University of Michigan and Western Michigan University athletes back together again. Flint is known for its recent water crisis, but on Sunday it was known for dominant runners competing for a great cause on a stunningly beautiful fall day in Denver. In addition to sponsoring them, Boxelder Consulting donated to St. Jude Hospital in Memphis in each runner’s name. 2017 marks the Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver Half Marathon’s 8th year since its inception in 2010.
Audra Walter, Jenna Walter and Geena Gall all finished in the top half of their age group in the race. The three met through sports teams in Flint and all competed at the collegiate level for golf and track. Audra and Geena currently reside in Denver and Jenna lives in Memphis. This opportunity brought the ladies back together for the first time in over a decade.
“You don’t ever forget your hometown and the friends you made there. My parents still live in Flint and deal with the water crisis every day. This was a way of showing that residents of Flint that we can not only overcome this serious problem, but thrive,” said Geena Gall after the event. Ms. Gall also competed in the 2012 Olympics in London for the U.S. Track & Field team. She was also an NCAA All American in Track & Field at the University of Michigan.
Audra Walter is the current Director of Marketing at Boxelder Consulting. An avid runner, she had the idea to get together with her sister Jenna and old teammate and friend Geena, to run the Denver Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon. The race covered 13.1 miles in beautiful downtown Denver. Over 12,500 competed in the 5k, 10k and half marathon races over the past weekend.
Boxelder Consulting jumped at the idea of sponsoring the runners and giving back to the Flint and Denver communities.
