As a long distance trucker, Steve struggled to find time to prepare and file his tax returns. Eventually, the IRS submitted Substitute Tax Returns on Steve’s behalf – in effect, taxing Steve’s income without any consideration of his expenses and deductions.  They claimed Steve owed nearly $350,000 in back taxes.
